Increase in firework-related burn injuries in youths

Whether it's a fireworks display on the Fourth of July or on New Years, residents in Arizona and other states across the nation tend to enjoy setting off their own fireworks. While it can be an enjoyable and beautiful experience, it is also something that carries with it serious risks. Whether it's in your backyard or at a professional display, there are serious risks associated with fireworks. If a person fails to uphold their duty of care while setting off fireworks, it could result in a spectator suffering a burn injury.

Because the laws surrounding fireworks have become more lax over the years, more and more people are purchasing fireworks for their personal use. Additional, there has been an increase in the youth suffering burn injuries.

A research study focused on patients under the age of 21 that were admitted to the emergency department for burn injuries between 2006 and 2012. It was found that 28.9 percent in 2006 necessitated inpatient admission wile 50 percent in 2012 required inpatient admission.

Based on the findings of this study, the increase in firework-related injuries in children as well as the severities of these injuries in very concerning. Additionally, a burn injury is likely to require medical treatment and a lengthy recovery. This can be physically, mentally and emotionally difficult, and a burn victim likely endures much pain and suffering during the recovery process.

If the negligence of another person causes you to suffer a burn injury from a firework, it is important to understand that there are recourses available. A personal injury claim could help a burn victim recover compensation for expenses such as medical bills, lost wages and other related losses.
