Drunk driving accidents can affect anyone and everyone

Operating any kind of vehicle on Arizona roadways while intoxicated is against the law. Though there are laws in place to penalize drunk drivers and dissuade others from driving drunk, drunk driving accidents still happen too often. Such accidents caused by drunk drivers can result in serious injuries and even death to other unsuspecting motorists on the road.

When most people hear about or read about an accident involving a drunk driver, they may visualize two cars involved in an accident where one of the drivers is alleged to have been driving while intoxicated. Though it is true that such accidents typically can involve one or more cars, they can also affect pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

Recently, a motorcyclist in Arizona who was hit by a drunk driver on Loop 303 near Peoria Avenue, lost his life. Nobody is immune and anyone can become a victim in a drunk driving accident.

Additionally, according to the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety, in general, motorcycle accidents that result in fatalities are on the rise. Thus far this year alone, more than 65 people in Arizona have lost their lives in accidents involving motorcycles. Furthermore, an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer noted that typically collisions between a motorcyclist and a car are not necessarily the motorcyclist's fault. Generally, car drivers are not used to seeing motorcycles on the roads.

Regardless of one's mode of transportation, the person at the helm of their vehicle should be attentive, aware of their surroundings and should obey all traffic laws. By their very nature, car accidents are unscheduled. If one is involved in an accident and suffers injuries, it may be beneficial to consult with a personal injury law firm to determine the best legal course of action for the given circumstances.
