Arizona woman implicated in drunk driving accident

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, over 10,000 people lost their lives in impaired driving accidents in 2012 alone. This statistic may lead some people to pause and think about the consequences and impact that drunk driving accidents have on other unsuspecting motorists on the road. For public safety reasons, states across the U.S. have laws against driving while intoxicated. Even though laws are in place, people still sustain serious injuries and even die in drunk driving accidents that are caused by someone else's negligence.

Arizona residents may find it interesting to learn that a 42-year-old Arizona woman was recently arrested in California and charged with felony level counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, fleeing the scene of an accident causing injury or death and DUI causing injury. Preliminary investigation reports indicate that the 42-year-old woman may have been intoxicated when she was driving in the wrong lane of traffic and slammed head-on into a taxi cab. Shortly thereafter, the taxi driver exited his vehicle and was hit several times by oncoming traffic.

The 42-year-old woman fled the scene of the accident but was arrested a few hours later and charged with the crimes. Authorities are in the process of locating witnesses who may have any information about the tragic incident. The taxi driver left behind a spouse and three children.

The loss of a family member in a car accident is difficult for many to grasp. Making sense of a senseless accident may be difficult, but a family may find some solace and measure of justice in holding a negligent driver responsible. In any car accident, the surviving family members may be entitled to compensation for burial expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and loss of future earnings.
