One killed in car accident when struck by multiple vehicles

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a female passenger riding in a car recently was involved a car accident. She died after she was ejected from the car, thrown into approaching traffic and then hit by a number of other vehicles.

Preliminary accident investigation reports indicate that the accident happened around 5:30 in the morning on Interstate 17 when the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu the female passenger was riding in lost control of the vehicle and hit a median wall. Following the collision with the wall, a Mercury Cougar then collided into the Malibu. At some point the female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and ended up in oncoming traffic, where multiple cars hit her.

According to authorities, another driver pulled over to help but was hit by a Chevrolet Suburban. Other than the passenger in the Malibu who was killed, the drivers of the Malibu, the Cougar and the driver who stopped to helped suffered non-life threatening injuries. The Suburban driver, a 33-year-old, who hit the driver that had stopped to help, left the scene of the incident but returned. Following this tragic car accident, the driver of the Malibu was charged with manslaughter, and the driver of the Suburban was charged with felony hit-and-run.

Most drivers are aware that car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Even though all drivers have an ongoing duty to exercise reasonable care on the roads they share with other drivers, and obey traffic laws, accident happen on a daily basis. Car accidents can be a life changing event for those who have been directly harmed or lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver.
